Jeera Rice - A Delicious Veg Recipe from India

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 2 tablespoons cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 tablespoons clarified butter (ghee)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice in a bowl of cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the jeera and let it sizzle for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the drained rice and stir to coat with the ghee and jeera. Add the salt, turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, and cumin powder and stir to combine.
  4. Add 2 cups of hot water to the pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the cilantro.
  7. Serve the jeera rice hot with your favorite Indian dishes.
